According to a study recently published in the journal Heart and Circulatory Physiology (USA), drinking a lot of lemon juice and honey can harm the liver.

Lemon juice and honey contain fruit sugar. Compared to glucose - sugar converted from starch, fruit sugar increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, liver damage and other chronic diseases.

Researchers examined and compared the effects of these two types of sugar on metabolism and cardiovascular function. The study was conducted on mice, divided into two groups.

One group was given glucose, the other group was given fruit sugar for eight weeks. The amount of sugar in the mice's bodies was equivalent to the amount of sugar a person consumes in six years.

These mice were compared to a group of mice that were given only water instead of sugar like the other two groups. As a result, both groups of mice given glucose and fruit consumed more calories than the comparison group. The group of mice that consumed glucose consumed more calories than the group that consumed fruit sugar.

It is worth noting that in mice consuming fruit sugar, the amount of triglycerides increased, liver weight increased, and the ability to burn fat in the liver decreased, which caused increased fat in the liver, strained the aorta, and affected blood pressure.
