World USD falls to 104
Today (May 16), VCB USD moved sideways in both buying and selling directions, while the world USD continued to decrease in price, falling to 104 points.
The central VND/USD exchange rate announced by the State Bank is adjusted to 24,269 VND/USD, up 3 VND compared to the trading session on May 15.
Currently, the exchange rate allowed for trading by commercial banks ranges from 23,400 - 25,450 VND/USD. The US Dollar exchange rate has also been brought to the buying and selling range by the State Bank of Vietnam from 23,400 to 25,450 VND/USD.

The USD exchange rate at banks and domestic foreign exchange rates this morning recorded a series of upward adjustments at banks. Specifically, Vietcombank has a buying price of 25,152 and a selling price of 25,482, an increase of 3 VND in both buying and selling prices compared to the trading session on May 15. The current USD buying and selling prices are in the range of 24,000 - 25,500 VND/USD.
In the world market, the Dollar Index (DXY), measuring the USD against 6 major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 104.31 points - down 0.67% compared to trading on May 15.
Japanese Yen Continues to Hover Around Lows on Interest Rate Differential
Today, the Japanese Yen exchange rate fluctuated around the lowest level in the past two weeks due to the interest rate difference, the black market Yen exchange rate increased slightly.
Japanese Yen exchange rate surveyed on the morning of May 16, 2024 at specific banks is as follows:
At Vietcombank, the buying rate is 157.88 VND/JPY and the selling rate is 166.96 VND/JPY, down 0.02 VND for buying and 0.16 VND for selling. At Vietinbank, the Yen rate increased by 1.56 VND for buying and selling, equivalent to 159.94 VND/JPY and 169.64 VND/JPY. At BIDV, the Japanese Yen rate increased by 0.07 VND for buying and 0.09 VND for selling, reaching 157.81 VND/JPY and 166.14 VND/JPY, respectively.
At Eximbank, the buying and selling prices decreased by 0.72 VND, respectively at 159.91 VND/JPY and 165.21 VND/JPY.
At Sacombank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate decreased by 0.01 VND in the buying and selling directions, respectively, to 160.71 VND/JPY and 165.72 VND/JPY. At HSBC, the Japanese Yen exchange rate increased by 0.08 VND in the buying and selling directions, respectively, to 158.44 VND/JPY and 165.19 VND/JPY.
According to a survey by Cong Thuong Newspaper, today's Japanese Yen exchange rate at Sacombank is the bank with the highest Japanese Yen buying rate and HSBC is the bank with the lowest selling rate among banks.
SJC gold quietly increases, surpassing 90 million VND/tael
On May 16, SJC gold suddenly increased by the most 1.7 million VND/tael, bringing the price above 90 million VND/tael, world gold price stabilized at a high level.

DOJI listed the price of 9999 gold at 87.70 million VND/tael for buying and 89.40 million VND/tael for selling.
At Mi Hong Gold and Gemstone Company, the price of Mi Hong gold at the time of survey listed the price of SJC gold at 88.60 - 89.90 million VND/tael (buy - sell).
SJC gold price at Bao Tin Minh Chau Company Limited is also traded by the enterprise at 87.80 - 90.00 million VND/tael (buy - sell). Meanwhile, at Bao Tin Manh Hai, it is being traded at 87.80 - 90.40 million VND/tael (buy - sell).
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 5:00 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was at 2,385.70 USD/ounce, a difference of 28.1 USD/ounce compared to yesterday's gold price. Converted according to the current exchange rate at Vietcombank, the world gold price is about 70.092 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is still 17.608 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
