The power of the US aircraft carrier fleet is about to arrive in Da Nang.
A US naval fleet including the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, the cruiser USS Lake Champlain and the destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer will visit Da Nang City from March 5-9.
The Vietnam-US Joint Statement on the occasion of US President Donald Trump's State visit to Vietnam from November 11-12, 2017, said that the two sides planned for a US aircraft carrier to visit a Vietnamese port for the first time in 2018.

The possibility of a US aircraft carrier visiting a Vietnamese port was also mentioned during a meeting at the White House between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in late May 2017.
The USS Carl Vinson is one of 10 Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in service with the US Navy.
The ship has two nuclear reactors; equipped with about 90 aircraft of various types, including F/A-18F Super Hornet carrier-based fighters, E-2C Hawkeye early warning aircraft and EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft.

The USS Carl Vinson's offensive capabilities are complemented by defensive capabilities including two Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missile launchers and two RIM short-range surface-to-air missile launchers.
