According to several witnesses, on the evening of November 17, 2012, Hong Viet went to karaoke with some friends in Vinh City, including NN, who was the "girlfriend" of one of Hong Viet's friends. Around 10 PM, two women suddenly pushed open the door and entered the room. One was Hong Viet's wife, and the other was the wife of the man who was having an affair with NN. Initially, both women appeared very polite, sitting down and joining in the "fun" as if nothing had happened. However, the woman accompanying Hong Viet's wife constantly watched every move of her "rival" with hatred in her eyes.

After an argument, around 10:30 PM, a fight broke out and only stopped when Hong Viet's group of male friends intervened. The "party" ended, and everyone paid their bills and left. However, after being beaten up, MN, harboring a desire for revenge, pulled out her phone and called PVQ to "resolve" the situation. Hearing that his girlfriend had been beaten, PVQ immediately took a taxi to the karaoke bar. At that time, Hong Viet's group had just gotten into their car and were preparing to leave, while NN and a few friends were waiting outside for "reinforcements." As soon as PVQ appeared, feeling reassured, NN rushed to Hong Viet's group's car parked nearby, pulled open the car door, and used her phone to hit the girl who had beaten her in the karaoke bar. Another scuffle ensued, and NN received another brutal beating.
At that moment, PVQ arrived and witnessed his girlfriend being beaten. Before he could fully understand what was happening, his "heroic" instincts kicked in, and he rushed in to help his girlfriend. However, PVQ was chased and attacked by NN's boyfriend. PVQ ran into the karaoke bar to find a knife and called for help from his friends.
When PVQ found the knife and managed to call some of his gang members to the scene, Hong Viet's group had already left, and his friend NN was nowhere to be seen. Q and his group took a taxi to search for them. Upon arriving in front of the Doi Cung apartment complex on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, they spotted Hong Viet standing there. Q immediately rushed forward and repeatedly slashed at the player's arms and legs with the knife, causing serious injuries. After venting his anger, Q fled the scene.
Immediately after receiving the complaint from Nguyen Hong Viet, the Vinh City Police launched an investigation to track down the perpetrator. Once they identified PVQ as the person who attacked Hong Viet, the Vinh City Police persuaded his family to convince him to surrender. Recently, PVQ's family met with Hong Viet in person, and the player's family apologized and offered to compensate for the damages caused by Q.
Speaking to reporters, Nguyen Hong Viet said: “That day I went to karaoke with a group, but from beginning to end I was not involved in any altercation between the two sides and had no animosity towards PVQ. However, when he saw me standing in front of the Doi Cung apartment complex, he came and repeatedly stabbed me with a knife. If I hadn't used my hands to block, the knife would have hit my head and I don't know what would have happened to my life. Recently, Q's family came to see me to apologize and offered compensation and asked me to withdraw the complaint. My parents also said that there's no need for Q's family to compensate me; since they've admitted their mistake, we should forgive them. We just need them to pay for the hospital fees and medication we spent on my treatment. Seeing Q's family's pitiful situation, especially his two young children and his bedridden father, I'm thinking about it. I've also made mistakes before, so I understand how valuable it is when someone gives you a chance to correct your mistakes. "However, I'm currently busy dealing with many other important matters and don't want this to interfere, so I'm putting it aside for now. This Sunday I have to go to Hai Phong with SLNA to participate in the Hai Phong Open Cup football tournament, and I'll deal with it when I return."
According to a Vinh City Police officer, even if Hong Viet withdraws his complaint, PVQ will still be prosecuted because his actions were thuggish and dangerous to others' lives. Therefore, the police are finalizing the case file to prosecute him according to the law.
