In the past time, the department has done a good job of daily drug distribution for inpatients, outpatient insurance and weekly and monthly chemical and medical equipment distribution for clinical and paraclinical departments. Checking drug usage and monitoring drug, chemical and medical equipment needs of departments in the hospital, estimating and planning the quantity and types of drugs, chemicals and medical equipment for the following months. Conducting monthly periodic inventory of expiry dates, quantity of exported, imported and remaining drugs, chemicals and medical equipment in the Pharmacy department.

Periodically check and monitor the storage conditions, quantity, quality and expiry date of chemicals, medical instruments and dispense drugs at the direct medicine cabinets of clinical and paraclinical departments to have timely handling measures. The department participates in consulting and giving advice on the use of drugs in treatment according to the motto of right person, right disease, right form of use, right dosage and right interval between doses. Prepare reports on the use of drugs, chemicals and medical instruments of each department and transfer them to the finance department as a basis for settlement..."

Operating as a department under the hospital, the Pharmacy Department regularly participates with the Drug and Therapeutics Council in developing a list and rules for drug use in the hospital, contributing to improving the quality of treatment.

Currently, the hospital has 4 drug warehouses to promptly provide medicine for outpatients, inpatients, dialysis patients and traditional medicine patients. The drug warehouses are equipped with air conditioning, ventilation fans, thermometers, shelves, cabinets, refrigerators, etc., so the medicine is preserved in optimal conditions and of the best quality when it reaches the patient.

Patients receive medicine at the health insurance drug counter.

In 2016, Vinh Transport Hospital applied management software to the hospital, so it was very convenient to control drugs in the warehouse, expiry date and update drug types to issue and dispense drugs in a timely manner. In particular, applying hospital management software helps to quickly and accurately summarize the drug costs in health insurance for patients, and manage the activities of the hospital pharmacy in accordance with regulations.
