There are still 2,000 IS fighters in Raqqa, Syria
The US special envoy to the international coalition against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria said.
“Right now, ISIS fighters are fighting to defend the areas that this terrorist organization controls in Raqqa. They are fighting for their survival. We estimate there are about 2,000 ISIS fighters here and they will probably die in Raqqa,” said Brett McGurk.
According to Mr. Brett McGurk, defeating the IS terrorist organization in Syria will create the premise for a political solution to end the crisis that has lasted for more than 6 years in this Middle Eastern country, while helping to create sustainable stability for the whole region.

Previously, on July 27, the US Department of Defense decided to cut ties, stop supporting and confiscate weapons that had been armed with the opposition group Shuhada Al-Qaryatayn in Syria, after this group began attacking the Syrian government army instead of fighting against the terrorist organization IS.
This is the first time the US-led anti-IS coalition has had to cut ties with a Syrian opposition group. The move comes just a week after reports emerged that US President Donald Trump had decided to end the CIA's program to train and arm Syrian opposition groups./.
