There are still 795 million malnourished people in the world.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to the 2015 report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on "the state of food security in the world," hunger has decreased, but 10% of the world's population, equivalent to 795 million people, still suffer from malnutrition.

According to the FAO report, the number of malnourished people has decreased by 167 million in the last decade and by 216 million since the period 1990-1992.
Despite achieving some progress, 57 out of the 129 countries monitored by the FAO have failed to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of halving poverty and hunger rates.
With only six months remaining before the MDGs, established in 1990, expire, the FAO welcomes the progress made, particularly in West Africa, where the number of malnourished people has decreased by almost 25% in five years.
The Central, Eastern, and Southeast Asian regions and Latin America also achieved encouraging results. However, the hunger situation in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia remains worrying. The FAO stated that these two regions have the highest concentration of people facing hunger.
Researchers have listed a series of prominent issues hindering the completion of the MDGs, such as: excessive volatility in food prices, war, political instability, social unrest, natural disasters, etc.
Some researchers believe the actual situation is more serious than what is being reported.
In addition, many NGOs are concerned that climate change could undermine the efforts made over the past decade. On May 26th, 24 NGOs jointly signed a petition calling on the international community to include food security in climate change negotiations.
Because up to 70% of crops could be affected by climate change, and without timely intervention, an additional 600 million people could face hunger by 2080.
