On August 14th, the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund under the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper announced the program "For the Beloved Students of Truong Sa."

This is a fundraising campaign from individuals, groups, organizations, and society to build a school for students residing and studying on Truong Sa Lon Island, part of Truong Sa Island District.

The project is expected to include six classrooms equipped with basic facilities; a library, which also serves as a teacher's office; two teacher's quarters; restrooms, a freshwater reservoir; a fence, a schoolyard, and a sports field for students.

Truong Sa is an island district belonging to Khanh Hoa province, located in the southern part of the East Sea. The islands of Truong Sa district have infrastructure serving the population such as cultural centers, medical stations, temples, solar and wind power systems, and fishing ports… However, the material conditions for the education of children living in Truong Sa are very difficult.

Currently, on Truong Sa Lon Island (Truong Sa town), there is only one small, simple room with four blackboards for all the classes to study in.

Ms. Truong My Hoa, former Vice President and Head of the program's steering committee, hopes the program will turn the children's dream of having a real school into reality.

In response to this practical, meaningful, and deeply humane initiative, many individuals, groups, and businesses donated 4.5 billion VND and 20,000 USD right at the announcement ceremony.

According to the organizers, in addition to the investment from the local government, the program will raise approximately 10 billion VND in funding from the community for the construction of the school. Construction is expected to begin in the 2012-2013 school year.
