Duncan Scott did not stand on the podium with Sun Yang

Sun Yang is currently facing a doping-related hearing in September. However, for unknown reasons, Sun Yang was still allowed to compete at Gwangju 2019 by the International Aquatics Association (FINA). At the end of 2018, Sun Yang caused a stir when he used a hammer to smash his urine sample.

After the awards ceremony, Sun Yang blocked Duncan Scott and expressed his anger and mocked him: "You are a loser, I am a winner."

Notably, Duncan Scott is not the only athlete to show his opposition to Sun Yang’s presence at Gwangju 2019 by not standing on the same podium with the Chinese athlete. Accordingly, 2 days ago, Mack Horton – an Australian swimmer also refused to stand on the same podium with Sun Yang in the 400m event.

When asked about the actions of Duncan Scott, a teammate on the British swimming team who won gold in the men's 100m breaststroke at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Adam Peaty also expressed his agreement.

"I think the most important thing for a sportsperson is that you have the right to speak up. Duncan Scott has expressed his views. I don't even know why Sun Yang is here.

"He (Sun Yang) should ask himself whether he should play at this point when people are booing him. I know what people think and I know what he is like," said Adam Peaty.

Sun Yang won gold medal because his opponent broke the rules

Speaking more about the gold medal that Sun Yang won in the men's 200 freestyle event in Gwangju 2019, the Chinese swimmer won thanks to his opponent's mistake. Accordingly, the winner of this event was Lithuanian athlete Danas Rapsys, but this swimmer was stripped of the victory due to a rule violation at the start.

Sun Yang finished second and won the gold medal. Japanese swimmer Katsuhiro Matsumoto won the silver medal. Duncan Scott tied with Martin Malyutin (Russia) and won the bronze medal.

Sun Yang has long been known for his scandalous "achievements" on and off the green racing track.

"Sun Yang, he pees purple," French swimmer Camille Lacourt quipped on RMCsport after Sun Yang won gold in the 200 freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
