July is near the autumnal equinox

Full moon day of forgiveness for the dead

The underworld opens the gates of hell.

Homeless ghosts

The Great Saint Examines the Teachings – Venerable Ananda

Receive sentient beings without graves or tombs in all directions

The tree stump at the corner of the street market

No shelter, wandering day and night

Hunger and cold all year round

No thin shirt to cover the cold wind

Ghosts of the five north, east, and west

Young and old, men and women, come here to join together.

Now listen to the faithful's invitation

Lai Lam receives all the words before and after

Rice, porridge, betel and areca nuts

Gold coins, clothes of all colors, red and green

Rice, salt, fruit, and lanterns

Bring a little for tomorrow

Bless the believer with wealth and fortune

Peace, prosperity and harmony in the family

Remember the day of pardon for the dead

Again, the faithful sincerely invite

Now enjoy it

Take the young and old to the underworld

The faithful burn gold and silver.

Along with the clothes that have been divided

Respectfully inform the Gods

Proof of merit

Prayer for releasing animals on Vu Lan festival (not required)

Note, releasing birds, fish, shrimp, crabs, etc., are on the list of species allowed for release. This release depends on the faith and conditions of each family, it is not mandatory.

There are so many living beings today.

Listen to the teachings

You are very worldly.

So this life is immersed in the river of delusion

Darkness does not know how to do good

Committing many crimes, falling into the abyss

Because of evil intentions in previous life

So now suffer the consequences of extreme pain.

Gills, fur, shell, scales, horns

Smooth, rough, shiny skin, animals

Because of jealousy, greed and anger

Because of profit, harming others for fun

Because of causing resentment and making enemies

Because of harming living beings, harming living beings is satisfying.

Because of separation and imprisonment

Because of stabbing, I suffered so much pain.

Pray for Buddha's compassionate power

Again thanks to Buddhists for opening their hearts of compassion

Now thanks to the support of the Sangha

Connecting with the Three Jewels to escape the cycle of suffering

Or be born in the heavens

Or immediately awaken to the good realm

Or be born as a human

Know good from evil, avoid confusion...

Living beings take refuge in Buddha

Living beings take refuge in the Dharma

Living beings take refuge in the Sangha….
