Yen Xuan arrived in Thailand on December 11 and quarantined in a hotel room she rented herself. Every day, she still practiced regularly and maintained her job of instructing students online. Van Lam often visited his girlfriend but he could only stand on the street and watch her from afar.

Because of Covid-19, Van Lam and his friend have been apart for nearly a year. Before that, Yen Xuan went to Thailand many times to be with and encourage the Vietnamese-American goalkeeper in his matches. After the 2019 season, she also went to Russia to meet and celebrate Tet with her lover's family.
Last weekend, Van Lam did not play in the match between Muangthong United and Suphaburi FC in round 15 of the Thai League due to health problems. The person who replaced him in this match was goalkeeper Somporn Yos and Muangthong won 3-1. This victory helped Muangthong rise to 8th place in the rankings with 21 points. In the next round, Van Lam's team will visit True Bangkok United Club today, December 26.
