(Baonghean.vn) - The former Vietnamese football prodigy began his coaching career by assisting his old teammate Nhu Thuat in taking charge of the U21 SLNA team.
"I will work at SLNA. In the near future, I also plan to study to get a coaching certificate," Pham Van Quyen shared.
Van Quyen was once considered a football prodigy of Vietnam. The peak of this striker's career was the goal that helped Vietnam defeat the new team in the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup - South Korea, when the two teams met in the qualifying round of the 2004 Asian Cup.

However, at the peak of his career, Van Quyen was involved in a match-fixing scandal at the 2005 Games. Returning after serving his sentence, the striker from Nghe An joined Nghe An, Navibank Saigon, and Vissai Ninh Binh.
He retired from his football career in 2015, when Mr. Truong dissolved Vissai Ninh Binh, because a series of players participated in match-fixing in the AFC Cup.
SLNA said Van Quyen will support Nhu Thuat in training the U21 team. The Nghe An team believes that with his extensive experience, the former Vietnamese football prodigy will help the club train talented strikers.
Since the time of Van Quyen and Cong Vinh, SLNA has not yet introduced any striker who is truly considered talented.
Nghe An football team has also registered for Van Quyen to attend the C-license coaching class next May.
