Van Quyet and Hung Dung in the AFC Cup group stage best squad
Hanoi FC was eliminated from the group stage of the 2017 AFC Cup, but Van Quyet and Hung Dung still made a strong impression on the foreign press. These two players were ranked in the best squad of the AFC Cup group stage in the ASEAN region voted by Fox Sport Asia.
These two players contributed 9 goals for Hanoi FC in the 2017 AFC Cup group stage. 5 goals for Van Quyet and 4 goals for Hung Dung. An article on Fox Sport Asia commented that “Hung Dung is improving day by day and should have a place in the national team” while Van Quyet “is the best solution for the Vietnamese national team’s attack in the post-Cong Vinh era”.
Hung Dung belongs to the generation of players born in 1993 and has become a mainstay of Hanoi FC in the past two years. Hung Dung left a strong impression with a curling shot to equalize 1-1 for Hanoi FC in their away match against Felda United.

“Vietnam is lucky to always have many good midfielders. The 23-year-old’s performance in the AFC Cup group stage not only increased his fan base but also helped him “knock on the door” of the national team. Hung Dung is increasingly mature, passes the ball well and always keeps a cool head on the field,” Fox Sport Asia commented on the midfielder of Hanoi FC.
Meanwhile, striker Nguyen Van Quyet has shown more of a knack for scoring goals in the AFC Cup than in the V-League, as evidenced by his 5 goals in just 6 group stage matches. Fox Sport Asia commented: “He is leading the scoring list in the AFC Cup. The 25-year-old is becoming more and more dangerous in every match. His hard work and ability to cause problems for opposing defenders even when he doesn’t score is a general description of him.”

Similar to Hung Dung, Van Quyet also had his own masterpiece in the group stage with a bicycle kick to equalize 1-1 against Ceres Negros in the first round.
Hanoi FC finished 6 matches in Group G, AFC Cup 2017 with 11 points but ranked second due to inferior goal difference to Ceres Negros (Philippines). The representative of Vietnam sadly left the tournament because they could not become the second team with the best record in the East Asia region.
