Gold prices surged by nearly 1 million VND per tael.
On the afternoon of May 14th, gold prices unexpectedly surged by nearly 1 million dong, surpassing the 36 million dong/ounce mark.
By late afternoon, the price of SJC gold was 36.20 – 36.45 million VND/ounce. Compared to the end of yesterday, the current price is 510,000 VND higher for buying and nearly 800,000 VND higher for selling. At the beginning of the day, the price was below 36 million VND but began to rise sharply since late morning.
Gold prices in Ho Chi Minh City have slightly decreased compared to 3 PM on May 14th, trading at 36.25-36.55 million VND/ounce, an increase of 560,000 VND/ounce for buying and 820,000 VND/ounce for selling. Meanwhile, in Hanoi, gold prices increased by 470,000 VND for buying and 730,000 VND for selling, trading at 36.15-36.47 million VND/ounce.
Compared to the end of yesterday, the selling price of gold is now nearly 800,000 VND/ounce higher.
While world gold prices remained relatively stable, domestic demand for gold surged, causing domestic gold prices to rise by as much as 1 million VND per tael at one point.
At one point this afternoon, the selling price of gold rose to 36.7 million VND per tael. This was a completely unexpected development in domestic gold prices.
At the banking sector, Eximbank is listing gold at 36.3-36.55 million VND/ounce, while DongAbank is quoting 36.25-36.57 million VND/ounce. At Bao Tin Minh Chau, Thang Long Dragon gold also increased by 270,000 VND compared to this morning, reaching 33.56-34.11 million VND/ounce.
