Gold surges; world oil prices near $80 per barrel.

Gold priceToday, January 13, 2024, world gold prices continued to rise by 700,000 VND/ounce, reaching 76 million VND/ounce. The price is continuing its strong upward trend. A survey conducted at 5:00 AM on January 13, 2024, on the trading floors of several companies shows the following:

Today, DOJI lists the price of 9999 gold at 73.45 million VND/ounce for buying and 75.95 million VND/ounce for selling.

Meanwhile, at Mi Hong Gold and Gemstone Company, the price is 74.60 - 75.90 million VND/ounce (buying price - selling price).

At Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd., the price of SJC gold is also being traded at 73.80 – 75.95 million VND/ounce (buying price - selling price). Meanwhile, at Bao Tin Manh Hai, it is being traded at 73.80 – 76.15 million VND/ounce.

According to Kitco, the spot price of gold in the world market at 5:00 AM Vietnam time today was $2,046.600 USD/ounce. This represents a difference of $18.43 USD/ounce compared to yesterday's price. Converted using the current exchange rate at Vietcombank, the world gold price is approximately VND 59.654 million/ounce (excluding taxes and fees). Therefore, the price of SJC gold bars remains VND 13.846 million/ounce higher than the international gold price.

Japanese Yen reverses course and rises.

According to a survey by the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Sacombank has the highest Japanese Yen buying rate today, January 13th, while Agribank has the lowest selling rate among all banks.

Accordingly, at Vietcombank,The Japanese Yen exchange rate at Vietcombank is 163.45 VND/JPY for buying and 173.00 VND/JPY for selling, an increase of 0.13 VND in the buying rate and 0.12 VND in the selling rate.

At Vietinbank, the Yen exchange rate increased by 0.05 VND on the buying side and 0.06 VND on the selling side, equivalent to 164.23 VND/JPY and 173.93 VND/JPY respectively.

At BIDV Bank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate increased by 0.34 VND on the buying side and decreased by 0.18 VND on the selling side, reaching 164.57 VND/JPY and 174.27 VND/JPY respectively.

At Agribank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate is 164.95 VND/JPY for buying and 170.00 VND/JPY for selling – a decrease of 0.6 VND in the buying rate and 0.75 VND in the selling rate.

At Techcombank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate increased by 0.66 VND on the buying side and 0.71 VND on the selling side, reaching 162.11 VND/JPY and 173.19 VND/JPY respectively.

At Sacombank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate increased by 0.51 VND on the buying side and 0.49 VND on the selling side, reaching 166.72 VND/JPY and 171.81 VND/JPY respectively.

At NCB Bank, the Japanese Yen exchange rate is 164.86 VND/JPY for buying and 171.77 VND/JPY for selling (corresponding to an increase of 0.69 VND for buying and 0.66 VND for selling).

Oil prices are nearing $80 per barrel.

On the global market,gasoline pricesToday, January 13th, the upward trend continues. Brent crude oil prices are approaching the $80/barrel mark.

According to data from Oilprice, Brent crude oil was trading at $79.71 per barrel, up $2.30, or 2.97%, from the previous session. WTI crude oil was trading at $74.26 per barrel, up $2.24, or 3.11%, from the previous session.

Oil prices are soaring due to escalating conflicts in the Middle East, despite higher-than-expected inflation in the US. Tensions have resurfaced in the Red Sea. The US and UK have taken military action against Houthi forces in Yemen following Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

Domestic coffee prices remain high.

PricecoffeeDomestic coffee prices, updated at 4:24 AM on January 13, 2024, show a slight decrease of about 100 VND/kg, but remain at a relatively high level, reaching a new peak and approaching nearly 80,000 VND/kg. Currently, the average coffee price in the Central Highlands provinces is around 70,600 VND/kg, with the highest purchase price in Dak Nong province at 70,800 VND/kg.

In Lam Dong province, in districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha, the price of bulk green coffee beans (green coffee beans, fresh coffee beans) is 70,100 VND/kg.

In Dak Lak province, coffee is being purchased at high prices; in Cu M'gar district, it is being bought at 70,600 VND/kg, while in Ea H'leo district and Buon Ho town, it is being bought at the same rate of 70,700 VND/kg.

Preliminary data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs shows that coffee exports in December 2023 reached 207,613 tons, an increase of 74.03% compared to the previous month and a 5.40% increase compared to the same period last year. Therefore, total coffee exports for the whole year 2023 reached 1,623,138 tons, a decrease of 8.68% compared to the total exports for 2022. This reflects the temporary continued tight supply of Robusta coffee from Asia in the short term.
