Regarding the proposal to have the whole country off on May 7 - Dien Bien Phu victory day
Voters of Hai Phong City requested the competent authority to consider making May 7, 1954 a major national holiday, with the entire population having a day off.
Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs responded to voters as follows:
Currently, Article 115 of the current Labor Code stipulates that employees are entitled to take time off work and receive full pay only on the following holidays:
- New Year's Day 1 day (January 1st);
- Lunar New Year 5 days;
- Victory Day 1 day (April 30);
- International Labor Day 1 day (May 1st);
- National Day 1 day (September 2);
- Hung King's Commemoration Day 1 day (10th day of the 3rd lunar month).
The addition of a day off for all citizens on May 7 must be considered and decided by the National Assembly to amend Article 115 of the Labor Code. According to Article 37 of the Law on Promulgation of Legal Documents, the Ministry will consider and assess the impact of the policy in terms of economy, culture, society... before submitting it to the Government and the National Assembly for consideration and decision when amending the Labor Code.
