Visiting Dong Loc to hear the story of the ten heroic girls.
In July, the sun blazes down on Ha Tinh. Gone are the red dirt roads; the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail is now wide and unexpectedly beautiful. As cars pass through Can Loc district, visitors are immediately struck by a 19.5-meter-high symbolic pillar with a three-sided relief depicting a car steering wheel amidst rice stalks and a wreath of victory, a rifle, and a pickaxe against a clear blue sky. Dong Loc Crossroads! A heroic place that continues to stir millions of hearts whenever it is mentioned. Dong Loc Crossroads, where 10 innocent young women bravely fell, allowing troops from the rear to connect with the front lines.

"42,900 demolition bombs, 12,000 magnetic bombs, 96 cluster bombs... were dropped here, averaging per square meter."2"We had to endure three bombs. On the afternoon of July 24, 1968, enemy planes dropped 60 bombs on this intersection, and 10 young female volunteers fell...", the tour guide's voice choked up. Incense smoke billowed, and some in the group sighed, their eyes welling up with tears. The graves of Tan, Cuc, Nho, Ha, Hoi, Huong, Rang, Xanh, and two women named Xuan lie on the green, tree-shaded hillside. The portraits are meticulously cleaned, and the incense burners are almost empty, showing that the resting place of these women is well cared for. Looking at the youthful faces in the photos, details from the film "Dong Loc Crossroads" suddenly came back vividly. Their heroic sacrifice will never be forgotten by generations. Two flowering acacia trees seem to speak for the souls of these women, as if the poet Vuong Trong were sending his message to them:
"We are not married and have not confessed our love to each other."
The day the bombs buried our hair in the mud.
He lies in the grave with his hair still unwashed.
Request for barren cemetery land
Let a few soapberry trees grow.
Fragrance is evenly distributed in the illusory smoke of incense.
Right next to the entrance to the memorial site is a bomb crater, a testament to the fierce battles of the past. A few hundred meters away is an exhibition hall with a diorama recreating the image of the heroic young men and women of the Youth Volunteer Corps who sacrificed themselves amidst bombing raids to maintain the vital supply route for vehicles heading to the front lines.
This July, the whole country is commemorating the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th. Dong Loc Crossroads is an unforgettable destination for tourists. From Dong Loc Crossroads, visitors can also visit the tomb of the great poet Nguyen Du and the famous Nguyen Tien Dien family memorial area.
