The "Legend of the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the Sea" knowledge contest is part of a series of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the Sea, jointly organized by the Naval Command and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Despite the short launch period (only two months), the contest attracted the attention and participation of not only youth union members and teenagers but also a large number of people in the province. 100% of district, city, and town youth unions and affiliated youth unions proactively coordinated with relevant departments and agencies to develop plans for the contest, establish preliminary judging panels, and award prizes at the district level.
Mr. Bui Van Vinh, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union, said: Among the 40,000 entries that made it to the provincial selection round, there were many young participants whose entries were elaborate, clear, coherent, high-quality, and demonstrated a rich understanding. Many entries showed significant investment of time, effort, and intellect, including the collection of paintings, photographs, and valuable historical documents, with appropriate annotations and illustrations relevant to the questions and themes of the competition. Some entries demonstrated the ability to summarize and synthesize historical events to explain issues realistically and profoundly. Many entries expressed their feelings about the "Ho Chi Minh Trail on the Sea" through the people, events, and achievements of the "No Number" ships, explaining the names of places like Do Son, Bai Chay, Bich Dong, Van Hoa, Ha Khau, Vung Ro, Lo Giao, Hon Heo, and Loc An... in a very profound and moving way.
Each essay expressed the deep gratitude, respect, and appreciation of the youth for the heroic soldiers of the "No Number" naval fleet – the spiritual pillar and unwavering belief in victory for the entire Vietnamese nation. In response to the question: "What are your thoughts on the people, the heroic deeds, and the legendary sea route named after President Ho Chi Minh?", the group of authors Le Dinh Ha, Doan Bao Trung, Nguyen Van Tuan, and Nguyen Thi Giang – from the Political Education Faculty Student Union of Vinh University – expressed: "...Like the Truong Son Road, the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the sea was a remarkable event that instilled admiration, fear, and astonishment in the enemy." The people, the heroic deeds, and the legendary sea route named after President Ho Chi Minh are symbols of the courageous, resilient, and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the struggle against invading enemies, making a great contribution to our nation's anti-American war for national salvation... The Vietnamese people in general, and the younger generation in particular, need to uphold this fine tradition in the cause of building and defending the homeland. This is the foundation and the great driving force for our country to achieve great successes in building the nation along the socialist path.” This entry, over 400 pages long, by this group of authors was also one of 20 entries selected to be submitted to the Central Committee.
The units with the largest number and highest quality entries were the Quynh Luu District Youth Union (8000 entries), the Dien Chau District Youth Union (7000 entries), and Vinh University (3000 entries)... The organizing committee worked objectively, fairly, and seriously to select the most outstanding teams and individuals. As a result, the first prize for individuals went to the team of authors Nguyen Thanh Huyen and Nguyen Quang Thanh - Class 48B3 - Political Science and Law, Vinh University. The two second prizes went to the teams of authors Le Dinh Ha, Doan Bao Trung, Nguyen Van Tuan, and Nguyen Thi Giang - Political Education Faculty Youth Union - Vinh University, and Dinh Van Dinh - Ho Xuan Huong Secondary School, Quynh Luu. Dinh Van Dinh also holds the record for the longest entry (600 pages). In addition, the organizing committee awarded 3 third prizes and 5 consolation prizes. For teams, there was no first prize; the second prize went to Vinh University and Quynh Luu District. The third prize went to the Vinh City Youth Union and the Do Luong District Youth Union. The Youth Unions of Hung Nguyen and Dien Chau districts and the Youth Union of Nghe An College of Education were awarded consolation prizes. Nghe An was also one of the units nationwide to receive a consolation prize from the Central Youth Union in the competition to learn about the "Legend of the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the Sea".
The competition not only helps union members, young people, students, and all segments of the population better understand the traditions and achievements of the unsung heroes on the legendary path named after President Ho Chi Minh; but also has the educational significance of encouraging today's young generation to uphold revolutionary traditions, maintain the spirit of independence and self-reliance, and actively contribute their efforts and intellect to the exploitation of potential and the firm and complete protection of the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas, islands, and continental shelf. The award ceremony will be organized by the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union in parallel with the launch of the "Contributing Stones to Build Truong Sa" campaign and the selection of Ha Long Bay as one of the new seven wonders of the world in a grand program called "Nghe An Youth with the Seas and Islands of the Homeland".
