On February 26, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua announced that the government had basically crushed a plot to undermine the constitutional order by far-right groups at home and abroad, but the threat still exists.

Speaking after meeting his Bolivian counterpart David Choquehuanca in the capital La Paz, Mr. Jaua affirmed that the ongoing anti-government protests in Venezuela are not simply about social issues but are actually politically motivated by well-trained opposition groups aiming to incite violence.

Foreign Minister Jaua said that Venezuela still has social problems that need to be solved, like in any society in the world, but that is not the reason for the violent protests.

He affirmed that the main goal of those behind it is to overthrow the government of President Nicolas Maduro and destroy the achievements of the revolution built by the late President Hugo Chavez 15 years ago.

The Venezuelan government also denied accusations that it was blocking people from using the Internet, while affirming that freedom of speech and the press was still respected.

Foreign Minister Jaua is currently on a trip to member countries of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) to inform them about the ongoing situation in Venezuela./.
