The 30-year-old woman was surprised to discover that a purple bruise on her arm was a warning sign of cancer.

The patient noticed the bruise a few days after she twisted her arm during yoga. But after 2 years, the strange sign still did not disappear. So she went to a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Tests revealed she had a rare, slow-growing fibrosarcoma (HFLT), which typically forms on the feet or ankles. The patient's case was first reported in the medical journal Jama Dermatology.

In the report, the doctors explained: “This is a rare form and has only recently been recorded. The exact mechanism of the disease is still unclear. Scientists need to study further to clarify the role of trauma in the development of the tumor.”

HFLT is rare, with no accurate figures on how many people are diagnosed in a year. It can occur at any age but is most common in the 50-60 age group. It is not usually fatal, but the tumors often grow back in the same place even after surgery.

In the woman's case, doctors noticed a hard "plaque" on the back of her left hand. X-rays showed swelling of the flesh on her hand, while an MRI showed a small mass under the skin.

Doctors believe that tumors form due toinjurywhen the patient practices yoga and the body's immune system overreacts to the twisting motion.

According to The Sun, the first case of HFLT was recorded in 2000. Since then, eight more cases have been recorded, seven of which involved some type of injury to the hands, feet or ankles.

“Clinicians should be highly alert for similar lesions appearing after various traumas, including those related to physical activity,” experts warn./.
