VFF makes important decision about overseas Vietnamese players; England team is undefeated, top of the table but still heavily criticized

Do Thi Anh Nguyet becomes the 15th Vietnamese athlete to win a ticket to the Paris Olympics.

Archer Do Thi Anh Nguyet has been confirmed by the World Archery Federation as one of the final five athletes to the 2024 Olympics based on the world rankings in the individual event.

Previously, archer Le Quoc Phong became the 12th athlete of Vietnamese Sports to officially win a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics, after reaching the semi-finals of the men's individual 1-string bow event at the World Archery Cup in Antalya, Türkiye (taking place from June 12 to 23).

Thus, Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Le Quoc Phong will participate in another mixed men's and women's 1-string bow event at the Paris Olympics.

Do Thi Anh Nguyet ranked high on the World Rankings thanks to her good performance at the 2023 Asian Championship (27 points), 19th ASIAD (21 points), 2023 World Championship (20 points), and 2023 Asian Olympic Qualifiers (17 points).

This is also the second consecutive Olympics for Vietnam's number 1 female archer in the 1-string bow event.

England unbeaten, top of the table but still heavily criticized

Having an unconvincing performance in the EURO 2024 group stage, coach Gareth Southgate and his team are facing heavy criticism from the domestic media.

The Daily Mail is one of the news sites with the most severe series of criticisms of the England team. Writer Oliver Holt used very straightforward words to talk about the poor performance of the "Three Lions" after the weak draw against Slovenia: "England looked like a collection of players who were both scared to death and exhausted".

This writer also asserted that if he continues to perform like this, the patience that fans have for Southgate will gradually run out, and there won't be much time left for him.

The Athletic newspaper commented: "Southgate's team won the top spot in Group C but continued to disappoint".

The Telegraph asked: "Southgate wants England to be loved, but how can you love a poor performance against Slovenia?".

Meanwhile, the Guardian expressed its helplessness on behalf of the Three Lions fans who traveled thousands of kilometers to Cologne to watch their team play with the short headline: "England fans' party ends in boos" or "40,000 fans doused with cold water by boring draw".

With the top spot in the group, England fell into an easier bracket. The "Three Lions" bracket does not have the presence of strong opponents such as Spain, France, Germany, Portugal. However, fans are still worried about the "fate" of England if Gareth Southgate and his team continue to show the same weak performance as in the group stage.

Spain will only receive 10% of the bonus if they win EURO 2024

According to AS, the President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) - Mr. Pedro Rocha - concluded an agreement with captain Alvaro Morata on personal bonuses if the team wins EURO. The players will share 10% of the total bonus that the Spanish team receives from the organizing committee.

If La Roja lift the EURO 2024 trophy on July 15, each player will pocket 435 thousand euros (11 billion VND).

UEFA paid the RFEF €9.25m in entry fees, plus €1.5m for reaching the round of 16. However, the 26 players in Luis de la Fuente’s squad received no bonuses for finishing top of Group B.

They must win at least one match in the knockout stages to start getting their bonuses. If Spain get through to the round of 16, each player will pocket around 100,000 euros.

This number will be even larger if coach de la Fuente and his team go deep in this year's tournament. The maximum amount each individual will receive is 435 thousand euros (Spain wins).

The RFEF has already received 1.5 million euros from UEFA. They will receive another 2.5 million if they reach the quarter-finals and another 4 million if they reach the semi-finals. In the event that Spain reach the final, the RFEF will pocket an additional 5 million euros.

This figure increases by 3 million euros if La Roja win the championship. The maximum amount the Spanish Football Federation receives from EURO 2024 could be up to 30 million euros.

Spain easily passed Group B with 9 absolute points, scoring 6 goals and conceding none. This is the most impressive achievement among the championship candidates at EURO 2024.

VFF makes important decision about overseas Vietnamese players

Recently, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the 2024 National U17 tournament. The tournament brings together 12 strong teams including: Hanoi FC, PVF, The Cong Viettel, Ha Tinh, Song Lam Nghe An, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Ba Ria Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Dong, Dong Thap and Tay Ninh.

In this year's tournament, the teams are divided into 3 groups (4 teams each) and compete in a round robin to select the 8 best teams to enter the quarter-finals.

According to the draw results, Group A includes Ba Ria Vung Tau, PVF, Song Lam Nghe An, Dong Thap. Group B includes Hanoi FC, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh. Group C includes Phu Dong, Ha Tinh FC, The Cong Viettel and Binh Duong. The tournament will take place in Ba Ria Vung Tau from July 5 to July 17, 2024.

According to the tournament rules, the 3 first-placed teams, 3 second-placed teams and 2 third-placed teams with better results in the 3 groups will compete in the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals.

The winning team will receive a prize of 100 million VND, the second place team will receive 80 million VND and the two third place teams will each receive 50 million VND.

Notably, this year VFF still allows teams to register 1 overseas Vietnamese player who does not yet have Vietnamese citizenship to participate in the competition. This regulation helps the National U17 tournament attract many young talents trained abroad, contributing to increasing the quality of the tournament.

The National U17 Tournament was first held in 2004. Song Lam Nghe An is the most successful club with 8 championships. The Cong Viettel Club is currently the defending champion of the tournament./.
