Because of land, he brutally attacked his younger brother.
(Baonghean.vn) - After a few drinks, Than and his younger brother had a conflict over land. Than used a pipe, bamboo stick, wooden cutting board... to hit his younger brother in the vital parts, causing him to die on the spot.
On June 9, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Tran Duc Than (born 1968), residing in Ngoc Doai village, Quynh Ngoc commune, Quynh Luu district, for the crime of "Killing”. The victim in the case was none other than the defendant's younger brother - Mr. Tran Duc Th. (born in 1971).
Locally, Than worked as a fisherman at sea. On the morning of January 21, 2021, on the way home from fishing, Than stopped by a shop to buy wine and breakfast, calling Th. to come over for “breakfast and a glass of wine.”

During the meal, the two sides had a conflict over dividing the land for the youngest brother. Out of frustration, Than punched Th once in the face. Then, he took a bamboo pipe and hit his younger brother three times on the head, saying, “Get out of my house. This house was left to me by my parents.”
After beating his brother, Than went out to the yard and stood while the victim, because he was stunned, went to bed. A moment later, Than went back into the house and continued to hit Mr. Th. in the face with a bamboo stick and said, "Get off my bed."
Seeing that his brother did not wake up, Than continued to hit Th.'s face. Not stopping there, Than also took a wooden cutting board and raised it high, then dropped it on his brother's feet and face. When he realized his brother was dead, Than stroked his brother's face and then left.
The cold-blooded killer calmly went to the football field to watch a game before turning himself in to the police and confessing to his crime. The cause of death was determined to be “cerebral hemorrhage, fracture of the main nasal bone, and fracture of the zygomatic arch due to trauma.”
At the trial, the defendant cried and blamed the murder on alcohol, which caused him to lose control of his actions. The defendant expressed remorse and apologized to his brother’s family. However, when the prosecutor’s representative proposed a sentence of 13 to 14 years, the defendant said it was “too harsh.”
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were especially dangerous to society, so they sentenced Tran Duc Than to 14 years in prison for "Murder".
