Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in chicken floss causes poisoning of more than 350 children
Poor quality chicken floss was identified as the cause of food poisoning for students in Ninh Binh.
On the morning of October 7, Mr. Vu Manh Duong, Director of the Ninh Binh Province Department of Health, said that the test results of food and water samples at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School - where 352 students were hospitalized after lunch - showed that the chicken floss contained staphylococcus aureus toxin.

Staphylococcus aureus can originate from raw chicken used to make floss, which cannot be killed when cooked. In addition, staphylococcus aureus can also appear when food is left for a long time without being well preserved, or when the processing is not hygienic...
According to Mr. Duong, as soon as the source of the food poisoning was known, the Department of Health coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to seal the store and destroy the entire shipment of the business that supplied chicken floss to the school (located in Ninh Khang commune, Hoa Lu district). The collective kitchen at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School was also suspended.
Regarding the health of the students, Mr. Duong said that out of 352 students, only one student has tonsillitis and two have a mild fever. All three students no longer have symptoms of stomachache or nausea.
