Why does everyone around Kim Jong-un hold a notebook?
Like many world leaders, Kim Jong-un is often photographed giving speeches, inspecting schools or farms and attending various ceremonies.
The North Korean leader is always accompanied by a group of people. They are high-ranking military or government officials.

What is particularly noteworthy and arouses curiosity is that in almost all the photos, the people accompanying Kim Jong-un always carry notebooks and pens, ready to write down what he says.

According to James Grayson, a North Korea expert at the University of Sheffield, note-taking is a tradition that dates back to Kim Jong-un's grandfather, the late leader Kim Il-sung.

"It's part of the image of the supreme leader giving good guidance," Mr. Grayson commented to the BBC news agency.

"If it's not recorded correctly, it could lead to serious consequences. They don't want to record it incorrectly politically," the director of the SOAS China Institute told the BBC.
