Alcoholic beverages have been present in human life for a long time. Some of the oldest traces date back to 7000 BC - the Chinese knew how to make fermented drinks from rice, honey and fruit and considered it an important spiritual food in religious life. In India, Sura - a type of wine made from rice, wheat, sugar cane and grapes was popular among warriors and warriors from about 3000 BC.

Perhaps no other civilization has valued alcoholic beverages as much as Greece, however, where a god associated with wine is Dionysus. According to Greek mythology, he was the son of Zeus and a mortal princess. Dionysus is described as a cheerful god who loves parties and music. On a more negative note, he is a god who frees people from the boredom of life by indulging in the madness of alcohol and stimulants.

Of course, we all know where alcohol led Chi Pheo - thanks to author Nam Cao for the very clear and direct warning message. But as humans, the more we forbid and warn, the more we fall headlong into it. How strange.

Why do people like to drink alcohol?

Some people use alcohol to relieve negative emotions. That's why there is the phrase "drinking to relieve sadness". But does alcohol really solve the problems they face? The answer is no. That's why there is a saying "Drawing a sword and cutting into the water, the water flows even more strongly - Drinking to relieve sadness, the more sadness". Because after drinking, people not only face their deadlocked reality but also become even more deadlocked because of new problems caused by alcohol. You have a broken heart, you go drinking, get drunk and crash your car into an electric pole. So you not only have a heart attack but also a body attack and a wallet attack. Not to mention if you don't crash into an electric pole but into someone, in addition to the above, you also have a headache.

Some people do not drink alcohol because they are sad, but because they are passionate about its spicy taste. For them, drinking alcohol is a way to enjoy life, similar to the way young people go crazy over bubble tea. But too much of anything is not good. Although alcohol is not banned like drugs, I believe that between an alcoholic and a drug addict, it is unclear who is more dangerous. I know a person who is so addicted to alcohol that his day only really begins after the first drop of alcohol in his mouth. That means his biological machine needs to be fueled by alcohol to function. Alcohol not only causes his organs to fail physically, but also corrodes his spirit and personality. To the point that at many times, he is very similar to a person with multiple personality disorder - just having fun together, then turning 180 degrees and cursing viciously like an enemy. I wonder if one day, alcohol will make him hate himself?

But compared to the two types of people mentioned above, the third type is the most cowardly. They do not drink because they want to, but because they cannot refuse the invitation of others. For them, drinking is a way to establish relationships, to be recognized as a member of a group. The funniest thing is: drinking to prove that you are a man. From ancient times to the present, from folk beliefs to science, drinking has never really been considered a standard to measure masculinity. In terms of animal fertility, people still say "marry to see the breed", meaning the biological function of the male species. On a more civilized level, the standard of a man is the ability to support the family - financially as well as spiritually.

There must be a reason why alcohol bans in China have failed more than 40 times in the history of this country, which is famous for its heavy-handed policy. Optimistically, let us hope that alcohol still brings positive values ​​to society, giving people a legitimate reason to continue to exist. But pessimistically, is it because this society is already addicted to alcohol that people do not ban alcohol?

I think of Chi Pheo again with the question that is full of deadlocks but most clearly shows his humanity: Who gave me the kindness? Then alcohol drowned everything, making him forget that he was once a human being.
