Avoid eating at night
General practitioner Bui Hong Minh - Chairman of the Ba Dinh Oriental Medicine Association said that according to both Oriental and Western medicine, balut is a very nutritious dish. In one balut egg, there are up to 182 kcal of energy, 13.6 grams of protein, 12.4 grams of lipid, 82 mg of calcium, 212 grams of phosphorus and 600 mg of cholesterol. In addition, there are also many beta carotene, vitamins A, B, C, iron...
Therefore, balut is considered a medicinal dish that nourishes blood, benefits the mind, helps the body mature quickly, and improves physiological ability. However, this dish is difficult to digest due to its high protein and cholesterol content. Traditional medicine practitioners recommend avoiding eating it at night because it will make the eater feel uncomfortable, bloated, and harmful to the digestive system. The most suitable time to eat this dish is in the morning, but you should not eat it too often and eat a lot at a time.
Who should not eat?
According to physician Bui Hong Minh, not everyone can eat balut, even though it is a nutritious and attractive dish. Children and the elderly are the two groups that need to be most careful.
Regarding this, Dr. Ho Thu Mai, Department of Nutrition - Vinmec International General Hospital recommends: "In my opinion, children under 5 years old should not eat balut eggs because their digestive system is not fully developed, which can easily lead to bloating, digestive disorders, which is very harmful to health. Children from 5 years old and up should only eat half an egg at a time, 1-2 times a week is enough. Eating balut eggs regularly also causes excess vitamin A, causing yellow skin, peeling of the epidermis, affecting bone formation, making children not develop comprehensively."
In addition, obese people, the elderly, patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular disease should also limit eating this dish. Healthy adults should only eat 2 balut eggs per week.
Why eat with Vietnamese coriander?
Explaining why people often eat balut eggs with ginger and Vietnamese coriander, physician Bui Hong Minh said that this is a harmonious combination that brings balance to the body. Vietnamese coriander and ginger have a spicy, warm taste, and the effect of warming the stomach, preventing bloating, disinfecting, and dispelling cold. Therefore, they have the effect of preventing cold stomach, bloating, and slow digestion.
In particular, because of the ability of balut eggs to increase sexual desire, people must eat them with Vietnamese coriander to reduce excitement after eating.
“Both men and women, if they eat a lot of Vietnamese coriander regularly, can have reduced libido, men will have less virility, and their blood will dry up. Women may lose their menstrual cycle. For pregnant women, this vegetable can also cause miscarriage. Therefore, if eating balut, pregnant women should not eat it with Vietnamese coriander and ginger,” physician Hong Minh advised.
