Vietnam's position after 42 years of unification
42 years after the country's reunification, especially after more than 30 years of renovation, socio-economics, national defense and security, foreign affairs..., all "fronts" have developed with good prospects, Vietnam's position in the international arena has been constantly enhanced.
That is what many people are proud of when looking back at the past, striving for the present to move towards the future.
Strong change
The year 1975 marked a milestone in the nation's history, when the country was unified. 42 years have passed, the continuous development in all fields has created a solid position for the country. The whole country has overcome the crises in the first years after unification, has transformed from an economy in crisis, with large deficits to an economy operating according to the market mechanism with State regulation, and has achieved many important and remarkable achievements.
It can be said that the overall strength of the nation has increased, creating new positions and forces for the country to continue to develop with good prospects. These results have become provisions for the nation to firmly step on the path of integration and further development.

Reviewing the country's achievements, many researchers have pointed out that, if calculated in general from 1976 to 1985, the total social product increased by 50.5%, the annual average increase was only 4.6%; national income increased by 38.8%, the annual average increase was only 3.7%, while the population growth rate was 2.3% on average, people's lives were extremely difficult and deprived.
The 6th Party Congress in December 1986 opened a new stage in the history of the country's development according to a socialist-oriented market economy and international integration. As Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien commented: “After the renovation, economic growth has always been at a very high level, over the past 30 years the average growth has been 6.6% per year, some years reaching over 8.4%... The average income per capita has increased from only 100 USD before the renovation to over 2,109 USD. Along with that, legal barriers have been removed, creating all conditions for all classes of people and economic sectors to participate in production and business. The face of the economy and people's lives have changed significantly.”
The statistics also clearly show the achievements of the renovation and international integration, which have increased the country's economic potential many times over. Currently, the country has over 650,000 domestic enterprises, over 20,000 FDI enterprises, and there have been enterprises ranked in the region with a workforce trained and practiced in a competitive environment.
In 2016 alone, for the first time, there were over 110,000 newly established enterprises, the highest ever. Industrial products have increased in both number and output. The commercial sector has grown from small and scattered to thousands of supermarkets and shopping centers. In 1986, Vietnam only had trade relations with 43 countries, but now it has trade and investment relations with about 230 countries and territories.
Economic growth has basically been harmoniously linked with cultural development, human development, social progress and equity. The economic and social infrastructure has developed quite rapidly with many modern works, creating a new face for the country. Those who have experienced 30 years of renovation could not imagine the speed of development of modern works today.
In Hanoi alone, it is now difficult to count all the large-scale projects and major roads that have given the country a new look. Along with that, progress, social justice, cultural development and the construction of new rural areas have achieved many positive results. The poverty rate has decreased sharply, to less than 6%. Nearly 100% of households have access to the national grid..., which is not an easy task.
Firm integration
42 years after the war, more than 30 years after renovation, Vietnam has taken a big step on the path of integration and development. Vietnam has now become a part of the global economy, has economic and trade relations with most economies in the world, is an attractive destination for investors from more than 100 countries and territories with about 20,000 projects.
Looking at the success of the renovation process in Vietnam, many analysts have the same opinion: The position in the international arena is increasingly high and Vietnam is creating new strengths to take off once again. And 2017, continues to be the year marking an important stage in the development process, the first year of the journey after 30 years of renovation, which is very important in implementing bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements in a synchronous manner, integrating deeply. At the same time, it also continues to mark strong movements with the determination to build an honest, creative, serving and active Government.
Many opinions say that Vietnam is considered an open economy and one of the countries with a relatively high level of integration in the world. This reflects the general trend in the world which is the trend of integration and globalization; at the same time, it also demonstrates Vietnam's policy of proactively integrating into the international and regional economy, in the spirit of maximizing internal strength, improving the effectiveness of international cooperation...
It can be said that the integration mindset is present in all fields and professions, not only in the economy but also in education, health, agriculture, etc. Ministries and sectors have actively and proactively participated in accordance with the spirit of the Politburo's resolution.
Investment promotion conferences held continuously in localities have opened up many new steps. Right in Hanoi, with the determination to take the lead in the integration process, Hanoi has reviewed, revised and issued mechanisms and policies to encourage development, aiming to create a favorable environment for enterprises to carry out business and investment activities.
Proud of the achievements, but the difficulties and challenges are not over. We have achieved many successes, but compared to the world's development level, Vietnam is still modest. As Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc once commented: Currently, Vietnam ranks 14th in the world in terms of population but the size of the economy only ranks 48th and GDP per capita ranks 133rd. We must try very hard to shorten the gap with the world is the requirement.
As the head of the highest state administrative agency in this period, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has repeatedly emphasized the viewpoint of inheriting and promoting the achievements of 30 years of innovation; taking full advantage of opportunities and advantages; overcoming limitations and weaknesses; overcoming difficulties and challenges; striving to build a constructive, honest, decisive and people-serving government; working with the entire Party, people and army to comprehensively promote the innovation process, successfully implement the socio-economic development goals and tasks set for the 5-year period 2016-2021 and create conditions for continued sustainable development in the more distant future.
Welcoming the 42nd anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, many people also hope that the achievements in various fields over the past 42 years will create an important and valuable foundation and premise for our country to continue to innovate and develop more strongly and comprehensively in the new period. As Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Thuoc (former Commander of Military Region IV) shared: The country's position has never been as high as it is today.
We have attracted positive forces to ourselves to maintain and protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity. The confidence of our country's leaders is clearly demonstrated when we are respected by friends and heads of state, not only in Southeast Asia and Asia but also in the world. We are satisfied with the results, but not complacent, not lulled into complacency by our achievements. If management and administration are better, and the shortcomings and limitations are effectively overcome, Vietnam's position will certainly be much higher.
