Vietnam's number 1 striker Cong Vinh has just answered clearly in English when he admitted that he will retire from playing in 2017.

On June 9, on his personal fanpage, Cong Vinh attracted attention when he shared a video of him answering foreign reporters about his decision to retire. "Maybe I will cry on the day my football career ends. I left my family at the age of 12 to enter the SLNA training center. The happiest day when I first joined the national team was when I was 18 years old, which was also the year I won the first Golden Ball of my career. Over the past 12 years, no matter how cruel the audience always says "if... then...", I love the profession that I have sacrificed every drop of sweat for during my youth," the 31-year-old striker wrote.

The interview was conducted when Cong Vinh and the Vietnamese team participated in a friendly tournament in Myanmar a few days ago. Accordingly, the striker from Nghe An said he will retire next year. The AFF Cup 2016 will be the last tournament he plays for the Vietnamese team.

"I think playing for the national team is the desire of any player. But sometimes things are not easy. Some people think I play well but many people also say I am not a good player. However, I do not care. Now I am still here, as the captain of the national team, fighting with the coach, with very young teammates, some of whom are new to the national team.

I think I am a part of Vietnamese football. But this year is my last year wearing the national team jersey because next year I will retire. I don't want to play anymore. This will be my last AFF Cup. I love football so much. I think after retiring I will miss football so much, I will probably cry. Right now I will try to play with all my ability. I will run, practice every day because I love the matches, I love football," Cong Vinh confided with tears in his eyes.

Cong Vinh played his first match for the Vietnam national team on June 9, 2004 in a 0-2 loss to South Korea in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers. To date, he is the player with the most appearances for the national team with 74 matches. The Nghe An striker also leads the scoring list for the Vietnam national team with 45 goals, nearly double the number of the second-placed Le Huynh Duc (28 goals).
