Teaching Chinese in schools will be in line with development trends.
(Baonghean.vn) - Teaching Chinese from primary school level has received the approval of many parents and students. This comes from the fact that more and more people want to learn and know many foreign languages.
On December 1, the Ministry of Education and Training signed a decision approving textbooks for subjects and educational activities for grade 5 and textbooks for Chinese language for grades 3 and 4 used in general education institutions.
Accordingly, Chinese textbooks are officially put into use at the primary level. Therefore, in addition to English, primary school students will have a new option when learning a foreign language: Chinese.
Knowing a foreign language means knowing a culture.
Since entering junior high school, Nguyen Duc Anh’s daughter, currently in 7th grade in Vinh city, has started enrolling in a Chinese class outside of school. Previously, when her family saw that she wanted to study this subject, they were very surprised.
However, after knowing that his son liked it, his family was very supportive and agreed to let him take extra classes once a week so as not to affect his academic studies at school.

Talking about teaching Chinese in schools, Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh added: I think that today's young people approach the culture and foreign languages of other countries through many different forms such as music and movies. From there, they are urged to learn more foreign languages to better understand their idols. Personally, I think that learning more foreign languages will be better and can be taught according to the needs and wishes of parents and students.
Mr. Le Thanh Nga - lecturer at Vinh University also agrees with the above opinion. He has a child in grade 2 and for nearly a year now, his family has registered for him to study Chinese through free software online according to his interests and wishes.
Chinese is like English or French, and I think that learning any foreign language at any time is good. Therefore, if Chinese is introduced in schools, it will add another option for students and this is also very necessary, because Chinese is the most widely used language in the world.
In addition, from a cultural perspective, Chinese is a language with depth and is very good for nurturing character. Moreover, if children learn another foreign language, they will gain new horizons, have more cultural experiences, and be exposed to other civilizations.
Many conditions are needed to teach Chinese in schools.
The information that Chinese will be officially introduced into primary schools in recent days has also received much attention from teachers and schools. Giving her opinion on this issue, teacher Vuong Hong Lien - Principal of Hoang Tru Primary School (Nam Dan) said: This morning, teachers in our school also discussed the introduction of Chinese into schools and all agreed that if Chinese could be taught, it would be very good. However, if teaching is organized, I think that Chinese is only a second foreign language and should be considered an elective subject depending on the wishes of parents and students. Teaching also needs to be considered based on many factors such as actual needs, teacher conditions of schools and other factors.
Previously, from February 2021, the Ministry of Education and Training also issued a document ongeneral education programChinese language subject for students of all levels. According to this document, Chinese is included in the general education program from grade 3 to grade 12. The basic goal of the general education program of Chinese language is to help students form and develop communication skills through practicing listening, speaking, reading, writing skills and language knowledge (phonetics, Chinese characters, vocabulary, grammar).
Discussing the introduction of Chinese into schools, Mr. Dao Cong Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training said that it is normal, because in addition to Chinese, the Ministry has also issued textbooks for Korean, Japanese, and French for grade 3 to use in general education institutions. "In Nghe An, currently, Chinese is not taught in schools, but I think in the future, the need for Chinese will be used more and more. And if Chinese is opened, many students and parents will register to study," said Mr. Loi.

Teaching Chinese can depend on the needs of each locality. Currently, Nghe An has not taught it, but in some northern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City - places where many ethnic Chinese live or regularly trade and do business with China, the need to use Chinese is very high and learning Chinese from a young age will make it easier for people to communicate and live.
The 2018 General Education Program also stipulates that there can be 2 foreign languages, which are foreign language 1 and foreign language 2, and schools can teach 2 foreign languages in parallel in school. Even in the high school graduation exams, when printing foreign language questions, we had to print questions for 7 foreign languages, including: English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese and Korean. Many students, although they study English at school, still register for the Chinese foreign language exam and get high scores.
However, teaching Chinese in schools is not easy, because the demand for Chinese teachers is currently very high, but there are not many teachers in the classroom, and few teacher training colleges have reopened Chinese Pedagogy Departments. To teach Chinese, educational institutions need to ensure enough teachers to carry out the number of lessons according to the teaching plan in general schools. Teachers must also meet the standards of Chinese proficiency and pedagogical competency appropriate to the grade level as prescribed by the Ministry.
