Respectfully bowing their heads and offering incense to the spirits of the heroic martyrs at Hang Duong Martyrs' Cemetery in Con Dao island district, the delegation from the Command of Region 2, along with reporters and journalists, recalled the indomitable fighting tradition of previous generations.
Despite the harsh prison regimes of the French colonialists and the American imperialists, with their brutal imprisonment and torture, hundreds of thousands of revolutionary fighters and patriots from many generations transformed "Hell on Earth" into a revolutionary school. In Con Dao, over 20,000 martyrs bravely sacrificed their lives. Currently, only 1,921 graves have been found at Hang Duong Cemetery, of which only 713 have identified names and hometowns.
At Hang Duong Cemetery, the graves of the late General Secretary Le Hong Phong, a native of Hung Thong commune, Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province, who died on September 6, 1942, are solemnly preserved. The steadfast example of Comrade Le Hong Phong's unwavering loyalty to the country and its people has been emulated by generations of revolutionary fighters imprisoned on Con Dao Island. Although his grave was repeatedly destroyed by the imperialists, generations of revolutionary fighters rebuilt it… The grave of martyr Vo Thi Sau – the female hero from the red soil region of Ba Ria Vung Tau, respectfully called "Co Sau" (Miss Sau) by the islanders – is built of granite and is located on the left side of the central area of Hang Duong Cemetery…

The Hang Duong Martyrs' Cemetery, along with other historical sites in Con Dao, has been classified as a Special National Monument (for the second time). This sacred land commemorates the tenacious and heroic struggle of revolutionary heroes, soldiers, and the people during the two wars of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, serving as a "red address" for educating younger generations about revolutionary traditions.
