On behalf of the leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh welcomed Mr. WMWinfield and his delegation to Vietnam; expressing confidence that Mr. WMWinfield's visit would contribute to promoting the search for the remains of soldiers from both countries who went missing in the war, ensuring continued positive results.

Over the years, during meetings and interactions with the US side, Vietnam has consistently raised the issue of cooperation in searching for American soldiers missing in action during the Vietnam War; considering it a humanitarian act demonstrating the goodwill of the Vietnamese government and people, contributing to alleviating the pain and loss of American families whose loved ones went missing in the Vietnam War.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh also requested that the US side and Mr. WM Winfield, in their respective capacities, continue to study and propose initiatives to expedite the search for the remains of soldiers from both countries who went missing during the war, as well as work with Vietnam to adequately address issues arising from the consequences of the war, such as demining, decontamination of Agent Orange/dioxin in Vietnam, and humanitarian assistance.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense WM Winfield, on behalf of the delegation, thanked Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh for taking the time to receive them and stated that over the past 25 years, the US has received valuable and effective assistance from the Government, people, and veterans of Vietnam in searching for and repatriating the remains of American servicemen missing in action during the war in Vietnam.

Mr. WM Winfield expressed his hope that in the future, the Government, the Ministry of Defense, and the people of Vietnam will continue to create favorable conditions for the US side, along with joint working teams from both countries, to conduct surveys and search operations for missing American servicemen in the central region, Quang Binh province, and some areas within Vietnam's maritime territory, contributing to the effective search for the remains of servicemen from both countries who went missing during the war.
