Vietnam chairs UN Security Council discussion on Yemen situation
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy called on relevant parties to continue demonstrating political will, building trust, and fully implementing signed agreements.
On January 16, the United Nations Security Council held a discussion session on the situation in Yemen under the chair of Vietnam, President of the Security Council for January 2020.
Reporting to the Security Council, Mr. Martin Griffiths, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, assessed that the situation in Yemen continues to progress positively, with the past weeks of fighting being the quietest in the five years of conflict in Yemen.

The majority of Security Council member countries welcomed recent positive developments in Yemen; highly appreciated the efforts of the United Nations and relevant countries, including the Riyadh agreement and the ongoing negotiations between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
The Security Council members also welcomed the significant reduction in military activities and violence in the Hodeidah region, and called on relevant parties to make efforts to implement the Stockholm Agreement and the Riyadh Agreement, creating a basis for promoting more comprehensive peace negotiation efforts under the auspices of the United Nations.
Speaking at the discussion session, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Vietnamese Mission to the United Nations, said that Vietnam shares concerns with other countries about the humanitarian situation in Yemen, about attacks causing civilian casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure; and called on relevant parties to exercise restraint and create favorable conditions for the United Nations' humanitarian activities.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy welcomed recent developments and appreciated the role and contributions of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General and the United Nations Mission to Support the Implementation of the Hodeida Agreement in helping to reduce tensions and promote the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy called on relevant parties to continue demonstrating political will, building trust, fully implementing signed agreements, creating a favorable environment for dialogue and negotiations towards a comprehensive and long-term political solution in accordance with international law and relevant resolutions of the Security Council to bring unity to Yemen and meet the legitimate aspirations of the people of this country./.
