For many years now, film copyright has been a hot issue. Especially in Vietnam, where the main revenue of producers still comes from cinemas.
The movie Lo To, Tam Cam The Untold Story, and many other Vietnamese and foreign movies, as soon as they were released to audiences in theaters, were immediately copied and uploaded to websites for online viewing. Many movies were even livestreamed on Facebook by an audience. Since then, a huge amount of copyright money has been lost, causing damage to film studios.
According to the group of copyright owners consisting of 7 main members, including VTV, Motion Picture Association of America (MPA), BHD Company, Vietnam currently has more than 200 "dirty" entertainment websites, of which 40 addresses are assessed as "extremely dangerous" due to high traffic and serious copyright infringement content. The fight against copyright infringement is difficult for the owners themselves when they want to bring these cases to law.
However, according to lawyer Tran Manh Hung - member of the multinational law firm Baker & McKenzie, the law is still just a letter, and the habit of using it for free is still the biggest barrier to the development of copyright-paying viewing services. Therefore, to change this situation, the most important thing is that the audience and users in Vietnam need to change their awareness and have a sense of respect for creativity.
