Vietnam announces its 21st case of nCoV infection.
A 61-year-old man in Hanoi who sat near Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhung on flight VN54 from the UK to Vietnam has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The Ministry of Health confirmed on the morning of March 8th that he was the 21st case of nCoV infection in Vietnam and the 4th case in Hanoi. Ms. Nhung was patient number 17.
Patient number 21 sat near Ms. Nhung on the flight back to Vietnam on March 2nd. On March 6th, he was quarantined at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, facility 2. The Hanoi Center for Disease Control and Prevention took a sample for nCoV testing.
Ms. Nhung, 26 years old, traveled to Europe, visiting England, Italy, and France, before returning to Vietnam. On March 5th, she fell ill and was examined at Hong Ngoc General Hospital, then transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, where she tested positive for nCoV.
The patient's aunt and private driver, who were infected, are patients 19 and 20. The driver picked Nhung up from the airport and took her home to hospitals for examinations, while the aunt was Nhung's caregiver at home.
Patient number 18 is a person who returned from Daegu city, South Korea, and was immediately quarantined in Ninh Binh.
Currently, the Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control is urgently implementing measures to control and isolate those who have had close contact with patients, preventing further spread. Hanoi is upgrading its isolation measures to a higher level.
