Vietnam - Cuba to bring export turnover to 500 million USD by 2022

Vietnam and Cuba agreed to direct ministries and sectors to actively promote the implementation of the bilateral trade cooperation agreement, striving to bring two-way trade turnover to 500 million USD by 2022.

On the evening of November 10, Mr. Miguel Mario Díaz Canel Bermúdez - President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba and his wife successfully concluded their official friendship visit to Vietnam from November 8-10, at the invitation of the President and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

During the visit, President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Mario Díaz Canel Bermúdez held talks with General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong.

Under the witness of General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Cuban President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung, on behalf of the Government of Vietnam, and Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, on behalf of the Government of Cuba, signed the "New Trade Agreement" and the "Protocol on disbursement and financial management of Vietnam-Cuba rice production development cooperation for the period 2019-2023".

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of Cuba. The President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba met with Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan; met with leaders and members of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association; and attended the Vietnam-Cuba Business Dialogue.

Previously, President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers Miguel Mario Díaz Canel Bermúdez and his wife, along with the high-ranking delegation of the Republic of Cuba, laid wreaths at the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs; laid wreaths and visited the Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh, the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people.

During his visit to Ho Chi Minh City, President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers of Cuba Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez visited the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Site and the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park.

During the meetings, the two sides informed each other about the situation in each country, discussed directions and measures to continue to deepen the special traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, making it more effective and substantive, as well as discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two sides positively assessed the development of the comprehensive cooperation relationship between the two countries in recent times, with the bilateral political relationship becoming increasingly close and trustworthy through regular delegation exchanges and experience sharing.

Intergovernmental and inter-ministerial cooperation mechanisms have been maintained and operated more effectively, promoting diverse and substantive cooperation activities. Party, National Assembly relations and people-to-people exchanges have been increasingly strengthened.

The two sides pledged to continue close and comprehensive cooperation on the path of construction and development of the two countries; strive to consolidate, tighten and further deepen the exemplary brotherhood, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and loyal solidarity.

The two sides also discussed many measures to deepen economic, trade and investment cooperation in the spirit of efficiency and practicality, close cooperation in defense, security and foreign affairs, and promote specialized cooperation in agriculture, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, education, science and technology and people-to-people exchange.

The two sides agreed to direct ministries and sectors to actively promote the implementation of the bilateral trade cooperation agreement, seek mechanisms and measures to facilitate businesses of the two countries to access each other's markets, and strive to bring two-way trade turnover to 500 million USD by 2022.

On this occasion, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, on behalf of the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to Cuban President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in recognition of his contributions to the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba./.
