Vietnam wins first prize at the ASEAN Community Photo and Film Festival.
Vietnamese author Trinh Thong Thien won first prize in the photography category with his photo series "The Coming-of-Age Ceremony of the Dao Tien People".

On the evening of December 15th, at the Au Co Art Center in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communications held the awards ceremony for the Photo and Documentary Film Festival on the ethnic groups in the ASEAN Community.
At the ceremony, the organizing committee awarded the first prize in the photography category to the photo series "The Coming-of-Age Ceremony of the Dao Tien People" by Trinh Thong Thien (Vietnam). The first prize in the documentary film category was awarded to the work "What are human rights?" by Shune Lei Thar (Myanmar). In addition, the organizing committee also awarded 4 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 9 consolation prizes.
The festival, organized by Vietnam with the participation of ASEAN member states, aims to celebrate the establishment of the ASEAN Community later this year. The festival's purpose is to vividly reflect the real-life images and achievements of the peoples in terms of culture, economy, society, and religion, while also introducing and honoring the contributions of individuals, agencies, and organizations in each ASEAN country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son affirmed that through organizing the Photo and Documentary Film Festival on the ethnic groups in the ASEAN Community, Vietnam wants to contribute to the process of building a united ASEAN, for a culture full of identity, diversity, and unity.
After five months of launching the competition, the organizing committee received 1,489 photographic works and photo series, along with 113 documentary films from ASEAN member countries.
According to the judges' assessment, the entries were of good artistic quality and contained a wealth of information, with diverse themes and styles of expression. Some works showed innovative exploration and artistic value.
