After four days of competition, the young Vietnamese contestant successfully eliminated 22 contestants from Group D (ages 7-9) from the USA, Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Dr. Ta Quang Dong, Nhi's teacher, said that this is a very tough competition because it brings together many talented contestants from various countries. Contestants in group D have to perform pieces that are relatively difficult for their age group.
Nhi is a first-year student in the Intermediate Level I class at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She has studied piano for nearly five years and has won numerous awards both domestically and internationally, most recently a gold medal at the Cheonan Music Festival in South Korea in August 2012.
The Vietnam National Academy of Music has three contestants participating in this competition, including Nguyen Kieu Anh, who recently graduated from the Intermediate Level IV class and also excellently advanced to the final round of Group A (ages 18-24). In addition, there is one Vietnamese contestant from the US participating as an independent participant.
