Vietnam won eight medals on the opening day of the 2014 Asian Beach Games.

Prior to the opening ceremony of the Asian Beach Games (ABG) on November 14th, the Vietnamese sports delegation impressed with two silver medals and six bronze medals in Ju-jitsu.

In the women's 60 kg category, Vietnamese martial artist Nguyen Thi Huong defeated Khan Beenish (Pakistan) in the quarterfinals with a close score of 4.1 - 4.0. Continuing her momentum, the 1996-born athlete beat Hassan Shafaa (UAE) with a 13-4 margin to reach the gold medal match. However, Nguyen Thi Huong then easily lost to Battsogt Buyandelger of Mongolia, settling for the silver medal.

In the women's 50 kg final, Dao Le Thu Trang also lost to Masuda Maybelline (Philippines) with a score of 0-15. Thu Trang was the most successful Vietnamese athlete, winning two more bronze medals in the women's doubles and mixed doubles events.

After the first two days of competition at the Games, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 10th, with two silver medals and six bronze medals.

ABG 2014 officially took place from November 14th to 23rd in the tourist city of Phuket, Thailand, with the participation of approximately 3,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories.

The Vietnamese sports delegation participating in this year's Games consists of 138 athletes competing in all 18 official events: long-distance swimming, athletics, kurash, petanque, sepak takraw, beach soccer, beach volleyball, bodybuilding, wrestling, etc. At the 2012 Asian Beach Games in Haiyang City (China), the Vietnamese delegation ranked 12th with two silver medals and one bronze medal.
