Vietnam won 3 gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad
On the morning of July 12, a source from the Department of Testing and Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education and Training, said that all six Vietnamese students participating in the 2014 International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) in South Africa, which took place from July 3-13, won prizes, including 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.
The three gold medals went to Nguyen The Hoan, an 11th grader from the High School for the Gifted, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Tran Hong Quan, a 12th grader from the High School for the Gifted, Thai Binh province; and Nguyen Huy Tung, a 12th grader from Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong city.
The two Silver medals went to Vuong Nguyen Thuy Duong, a 12th grade student at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Da Nang City, and Ho Quoc Dang Hung, a 12th grade student at Talent High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University.
The Bronze Medal went to Nguyen Huy Tung, a 12th grade student at Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong city.
The 2014 IMO competition has a total of 101 countries and territories with 560 students participating, including 56 female contestants.
The Vietnamese delegation ranked 10th in the unofficial IMO 2014 rankings, after the delegations of China, the US, Taiwan (China), Russia, Japan, Ukraine, South Korea, Singapore and Canada./.
