Vietnam wins Silver prize at international comic contest in Japan

On the evening of February 6, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the 10th Japan International Manga Award award ceremony.

The author with the pen name Can Tieu Hy (real name Phan Cao Ha My, born in 1990) from Vietnam won the Silver Prize of this contest with the work "Hell Gate."

This is the second Vietnamese comic book (after Long Than Tuong) to be awarded at this contest.

The World Comic Contest has been held annually by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2007.

This is one of the prestigious international competitions attracting hundreds of comic works from authors from all over the world.

This year's contest attracted 296 works from authors from 55 countries and regions.

At the award ceremony, the organizers said that this year's competition had 14 winning works, including 1 Gold prize, 3 Silver prizes, and 10 Bronze prizes.

The Gold Prize was awarded to author Joel Parnotte from France for his work "Master of arms".

Along with the Silver Prize awarded to Can Tieu Hy from Vietnam, the other two works receiving this award are "Scavengers" and "The heart of darkness", respectively by two authors from China and Italy.

Can Tieu Hy said her first feeling was surprise, then pride; pride in herself and pride for the comic book creators in Vietnam.

According to her, the fact that Vietnam has a work winning an award in this contest will help Vietnamese comic creators become more confident and be able to see the path of Vietnamese comics.

Cao Tieu Hy said that young Vietnamese people have very good abilities, so the future of Vietnamese comics will be very bright.

Regarding the work “Hell Gate,” Can Tieu Hy shared that this work is about a world different from the current world, which is the fairy world and hell.

The theme of the immortal world will be carried out by her in the future. “Hell Gate” is a perspective on the law of cause and effect, life after death.

This is a story about a girl who was suddenly sent to hell. Feeling wronged, she determined to find out the cause of her death and find her way back to the living world.

It is expected that in the near future, the next parts of "Hell Gate" will be released.

The head judge of the competition, Artist Machiko Satonaka - one of the most famous comic artists in Japan - commented that Can Tieu Hy's work brings a rich view of the world, helping readers better understand the meaning and value of life.

She really wanted to continue following Can Tieu Hy's story.

The international comic contest is organized by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the aim of creating opportunities for exchange, communication and honoring comic authors around the world, while promoting Japanese comic culture./.
