Vietnam team complained about unfair referee treatment in the Philippines. |
The fourth Asian Taekwondo Championship took place in Manila (Philippines). The Vietnamese team participated in 10 events, winning a total of two gold medals and five bronze medals.
The first gold medal came in the mixed pair creative boxing event. The winners were Ngo Thi Thuy Dung and Le Thanh Trung. Next, “Vietnam’s taekwondo hot girl” Chau Tuyet Van and four other teammates, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thien Phung, Le Thanh Trung and Hua Van Huy, performed brilliantly to win the five-person team creative boxing event.
In addition to the two gold medals mentioned above, the Vietnamese taekwondo team also won five bronze medals from the creative men's and women's individual events, the standard men's individual events under 40 years old, and the standard men's and women's team events under 30 years old.
At this tournament, many Vietnamese athletes felt oppressed. A typical example was the team creative right event. Of the seven judges, the majority gave Vietnam the win, but two other members gave the wrong score, leading to a low result.
Immediately, the Vietnamese team petitioned the Organizing Committee. The head of the competition committee let the referees meet and make adjustments, not suing higher because everyone thought the Vietnamese performance was better. After a quick five-minute meeting, through the votes, the Vietnamese team was confirmed to win.
