Vietnam won two gold medals at the Asian youth taekwondo tournament

On the evening of April 20, Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hy and the duo Tran Ho Duy - Nguyen Phan Khanh Han won together at the tournament taking place in Kazakhstan.

In the martial arts event, the Vietnamese team had eight athletes competing in seven events, and won two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals.

Minh Hy won the Gold Medal in the men's individual freestyle event, while Khanh Han - Ho Duy won the mixed doubles freestyle event. Khanh Han also won the Silver Medal in the women's individual freestyle event.

In the competition, Vietnam's taekwondo gold medal hope, Ho Thi Kim Ngan, did not compete successfully. The reigning 2016 world junior champion unexpectedly lost in the women's 46kg semifinals to Khantikulanon Jukanan of Thailand with a score of 3-5, thereby only receiving a bronze medal. Before entering the semifinals, Ngan played quite well to overcome Gaudani Ayushi Jayanti of India with a score of 19-12 in the round of 16, and beat Kaldybay Aliya of host Kazakhstan with a score of 15-10 in the quarterfinals.
