General Secretary: Developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia is one of the top priorities in Vietnam's foreign policy.

On February 22, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received and had a cordial exchange of opinions with Ms. Valentina Matvienco, Chairwoman of the Federation Council (Senate) of Russia, who is visiting Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong warmly welcomed Chairwoman Valentina Matvienco and the high-ranking delegation of the Russian Federation Parliament to Vietnam; expressed his good impressions of the official visit to the Russian Federation, especially the meeting with her at the headquarters of the Russian Federation Senate in 2014.

The General Secretary congratulated the Chairwoman on her re-election as Chairwoman of the 7th Russian Federation Council; highly appreciated the important significance of the Chairwoman's visit to Vietnam in contributing to the development of the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation; and through the Chairwoman, conveyed sincere regards and best wishes to Russian President V. Putin and Chairman of the United Russia Party Medvedev.

The General Secretary affirmed that the Party, State, National Assembly, Government and people of Vietnam attach great importance to developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the Russian Federation, considering it one of the top priorities in its foreign policy.

Vietnam always follows closely and is delighted with the great achievements that the Russian people have made in defending and developing the country; always supports and hopes that Russia will play an even greater role in peace and stability in the world and in the region.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the high-level visits of the leaders of the two countries' National Assemblies; emphasized that the Communist Party of Vietnam always attaches importance to promoting relations with the political parties, the State, the National Assembly and the people of Russia, and the ruling United Russia Party; expressed his belief that the results achieved during the Chairwoman's official visit to Vietnam this time will create new momentum, contributing to consolidating and deepening the Vietnam - Russian Federation Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Chairwoman informed the General Secretary about some major features of the recent situation in the Russian Federation; about the good results of the talks with the Chairman of the National Assembly and leaders of Vietnam; emphasized that the Russian Federation always attaches importance to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Vietnam; affirmed that the Russian Federation will strive to promote the implementation of cooperation agreements signed between the two countries in all fields, creating substantive changes in bilateral relations; the Russian Federation will do everything possible to develop and expand the comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Vietnam to become increasingly deeper.

Chairwoman Valentina Matvienco said that the Russian Federal Assembly will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese National Assembly in international forums, striving for peace, stability and respect for international law.
