Vietnam calls on Myanmar to end violence, find satisfactory solutions
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy called on Security Council member countries to support ASEAN's efforts in assisting parties to resume dialogue to reach a comprehensive solution to the Myanmar issue.

According to a VNA correspondent in New York, the United Nations Security Council on March 5 met on the crisis in Myanmar with the participation of Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General Christine Schraner Burgener.
Representatives of all countries expressed deep concern about the escalation of violence, causing civilian casualties, and called for an immediate end to violence, stabilization of the situation, resolution of the problem through dialogue, and continued efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the people, especially women and children.
Representatives of the countries highly appreciated the efforts of ASEAN and its member countries, and expressed their hope that ASEAN will continue to make more active contributions to soon finding immediate and long-term solutions to the Myanmar issue.
At the meeting, Vietnam called on all parties in Myanmar to exercise maximum restraint, end violence, ensure safety for civilians, conduct dialogue to reach a satisfactory solution in accordance with the Constitution, laws and aspirations of the Myanmar people, and create favorable conditions for the smooth progress of the democratic process.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Vietnamese Mission to the United Nations, said Vietnam is closely following and is very concerned about current developments in Myanmar, especially the escalating violence and tension, causing increasing civilian casualties and negatively impacting peace, security and development in Myanmar as well as the entire region.
The Ambassador also said that ASEAN Foreign Ministers had informal meetings to discuss issues of mutual concern, including the situation in Myanmar, and that ASEAN member countries have been making efforts to promote dialogue and seek solutions to this issue.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy emphasized that ASEAN is ready to assist Myanmar in good faith, in accordance with the purposes, principles and procedures stipulated in the ASEAN Charter.
The Ambassador called on Security Council member countries to support ASEAN's efforts in assisting the parties to resume dialogue to reach a comprehensive solution to the Myanmar issue.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy said that the international community needs to focus on supporting and creating favorable conditions to end violence, stabilize the situation, continue humanitarian relief efforts, and narrow differences between relevant parties in Myanmar, through efforts in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam supports the efforts of the Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Myanmar and encourages further coordination between the Special Envoy and ASEAN, emphasizing that constructive dialogue, cooperation and confidence-building measures with a focus on the people are necessary conditions to resolve the current situation.
Vietnam supports all efforts towards this goal for the benefit of the people of Myanmar and for peace and stability in the region./.
