Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh today answered reporters' questions about the US State Department's release of the 2016 Annual Human Rights Report.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Hai Binh emphasized that Vietnam's consistent policy is to protect and promote the basic rights of the people. Vietnam's efforts and achievements in continuously ensuring and improving the basic rights of the people in recent times have been recognized and highly appreciated by the international community.

The spokesperson stated that Vietnam is always ready to have frank, open and constructive exchanges with countries, including the United States, on issues where there are still differences.

To date, Vietnam and the United States have conducted 20 rounds of annual bilateral dialogue on human rights.

"Although the 2016 annual human rights report of the US State Department acknowledged some achievements in protecting human rights in Vietnam, it still made some subjective comments that did not accurately reflect the actual situation in Vietnam," Mr. Hai Binh emphasized.
