Vietnam ready for WEF ASEAN 2018

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the general rehearsal of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) 2018 in Hanoi this afternoon.

The Prime Minister inspected the conference venue at the National Convention Center and gave instructions on preparations.

Reporting to the Prime Minister, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that preparations for the WEF ASEAN 2018 event have been completed, ready for the conference events.

Speaking at the working session after the rehearsal, the Prime Minister emphasized that this is one of Vietnam's very important foreign affairs activities in 2018.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the subcommittees for their smooth, synchronous, and proactive coordination, especially their good coordination with the World Economic Forum (WEF) in preparing for the conference.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son reported on conference preparations.

The Prime Minister directed relevant agencies, departments and sectors to review all stages of preparation work to promptly detect loopholes and shortcomings, ensuring the success of the conference.

The WEF ASEAN Conference took place on September 11-13. Over the past 8 years, Vietnam has coordinated with the WEF to organize 3 major events: the WEF East Asia Conference in 2010, the WEF Mekong Conference in 2016 and now the WEF ASEAN Conference.

The opening session on the morning of September 12 will be attended by senior leaders from several ASEAN and Asian countries. There will be 60 meetings and in-depth discussions held.

This year's conference takes place in the context of the continued acceleration of the ASEAN Community building process, the rapid and complex changes in the world and region, and the increasingly profound impact of the 4.0 industrial revolution.

The theme of the conference is “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.

This is an important foreign affairs event, expected to be a bridge between countries in the Southeast Asian region and the world's leading corporate community, creating a forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the region.
