At 16:01 (Hanoi time), the Moon will enter the penumbra. The partial phase begins at 17:15, the total phase begins at 18:57 and reaches its peak at 19:00.

Mr. Tran Van Long, Vice President of the Hanoi Amateur Astronomy Association, said that the total phase will end at 7:02 p.m., the partial phase will end at 8:44 p.m. The Moon will exit the penumbra at 9:59 p.m. and the eclipse will be completely over.

On April 4, the weather is favorable for observing the event. The Hanoi Amateur Astronomy Association will organize observations for members and astronomy enthusiasts, expected to be outside the My Dinh National Stadium.

According to Mr. Long’s experience, astronomy enthusiasts can observe a total lunar eclipse with the naked eye, but it is more interesting to look through binoculars or a telescope. Viewers should choose an open area that is not obstructed by tall buildings, has fresh air and avoids light.

In 2014, astronomy enthusiasts in Vietnam observed a similar phenomenon on October 8. The next partial lunar eclipse in Vietnam will take place on August 8, 2017. The total lunar eclipse will appear a year later, on January 31, 2018.
