Will Vietnam be allowed to... export weapons to the US?

As the day approaches for US President Barack Obama to set foot in Hanoi, predictions that the US will officially lift the embargo onweaponAs the imposition of sanctions on Vietnam appears more and more in the media, there is a great possibility that it will become a reality.

In addition to its diplomatic significance, marking the complete normalization of relations between the two countries, it cannot be denied that American weapons are essential for the modernization of the Vietnam People's Army, because not all Russian types have superior strength and are truly suitable for our conditions and tactics of use.

However, besides the fact that Vietnam will buy military equipment from the US, with a policy of balancing the trade balance as well as to "reciprocate", will the US side proceed to grant licenses for weapons produced by Vietnam to flood into this country?

The above possibility is not without basis, when the personal weapons market in the US is still flooded with infantry guns originating from not-so-friendly countries such as Russia, China...

American weapon enthusiasts have for decades shown a particular fondness for the Russian-made AK-47 assault rifle and its "brother" variant. With American companies being banned from importing more AKs from Russia, this could be seen as an opportunity for Vietnam to fill the gap.

So if Vietnam is allowed to export personal weapons to the US, what will be its main products?

It should be noted that most assault rifles in circulation in the US are civilian versions, meaning they have to remove the automatic mode and can only fire one shot.

Vietnam’s arsenal still has a lot of unused AKs, but exporting them seems less feasible because it would require deep intervention into the internal structure. Furthermore, following the new trend, users are also requesting the ability to add accessories to rifles sold in the US.

Therefore, the most realistic solution is probably that Vietnam should promote bringing the domestic Galil ACE 31/32 to the other side of the ocean.

As a modified variant of the AK, the Galil family of guns retains its reliability and similarity in operation, while possessing the advantage of a more "fashionable" design and the ease of integrating additional sights or tactical flashlights... thanks to the 2 available picatinny rails.

If Vietnam decides to implement the above plan, it should also have more improvements on the Galil, which is to modify it to the ACE-N version with a picatinny rail extending along the entire upper body and a retractable stock similar to that of the M4A1.

At that time, assault rifles produced in Vietnam will have eye-catching designs and features that are not inferior to any other product, combined with the advantage of cheap labor costs, which will be a great competitive advantage.

In addition, if Galil ACE can be exported to the US, Vietnam will also earn foreign currency to speed up the modernization of the army, limit the burden on the budget, the above prospect is worth expecting to become a reality.
