"Vietnam will strive to host the 2015 IPU General Assembly"

The Vietnamese National Assembly has demonstrated the highest political determination to meet the requirements set forth; and is striving to successfully host and organize the IPU General Assembly in Vietnam in 2015.

This statement was made by National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung during a meeting with Mr. Anders B. Johnsson, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), at the National Assembly Headquarters on February 20.

At the reception, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung welcomed Mr. Anders B. Johnsson - the first guest to visit Vietnam in the new year according to the traditional customs of the Vietnamese people.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stated that in recent years, Vietnam has enjoyed political stability and maintained national security and defense. The Vietnamese National Assembly has made many innovations in its methods and content of operation, focusing on strengthening democracy, improving the legal system, and reinforcing the rule of law; better fulfilling its function of representing the will and aspirations of voters; ensuring gender equality; and better protecting human rights.

Vietnam has also actively participated in and successfully organized many major international events, such as activities within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, the Asia-Europe Cooperation Forum (ASEM), and many activities within the framework of ASEAN cooperation...

Vietnam highly appreciates the position, role, and achievements of the IPU in promoting democracy worldwide and supporting parliaments in addressing challenges in the development process. National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung affirmed: With the desire to make a practical contribution to the efforts and development of the IPU, the Vietnamese National Assembly officially proposes to host the IPU General Assembly in 2015.

Expressing sincere gratitude for the positive and objective assessment of the conditions and capacity to organize international events, as well as the sentiments about Vietnam and its people, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung, Secretary General, believes and hopes that the IPU Executive Committee will accurately assess and soon make an official decision to approve Vietnam's hosting of the IPU General Assembly in 2015.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung also stated that Vietnam is actively finalizing plans regarding infrastructure, human resources, and equipment for organizing this important event, to be submitted to the IPU Secretariat for consideration and approval.

Expressing his positive impressions of Vietnam and its people, IPU Secretary General Anders B. Johnsson stated that Vietnam has achieved many accomplishments in all fields over the years. The Vietnamese National Assembly has also gradually reformed, increasingly enhancing its role and position within the state apparatus; better ensuring the rights and interests of the people and making positive contributions to the activities of the world parliament.

Reaffirming his personal desire for Vietnam to host the IPU General Assembly in 2015, Secretary-General Anders B. Johnsson expressed his confidence that, with its capabilities and resources, Vietnam would certainly successfully organize this special international event.

Mr. Anders B. Johnsson also stated that immediately after leaving Vietnam, he will finalize his report and submit it to the IPU Executive Committee for an early decision. The IPU will also send organizational experts to support Vietnam in its preparations, contributing to the success of the event.
