Vietnam strengthens its maritime patrol forces.

Russia has just delivered two Project 10412 Svetlyak-class high-speed patrol boats to the Vietnamese navy, two weeks after delivering the second Bastion coastal defense system.

Russian media reported that the signing ceremony for the handover of the two ships took place on October 20th.

In 2002, Russia transferred two more Svetlyak-class patrol boats, Project 10410 version, to Vietnam, which Vietnam designated as HQ-261 and HQ-263.

It is known that in addition to the four vessels mentioned above, Russia is also building two more patrol boats to be delivered to Vietnam next year.

The Svetlyak-class high-speed patrol boat is equipped with a cannon, 8 anti-ship missiles, and 16 anti-aircraft missiles. The vessel has a displacement of 364 tons and operates at a maximum speed of 35 knots.

Two weeks ago, Russia also delivered the second Bastion coastal defense missile system to Vietnam under a contract signed in 2005.

Russian media reports that the Bastion system is an "achievement" of the Russian missile industry, capable of destroying various types of warships, from landing ships and support transport vessels to naval task forces and aircraft in attack groups, as well as destroying individual ship targets at a range of up to 300 km.

Bastion can also protect a coastal area stretching up to 600 km. Xinhua News Agency reported that Vietnam will deploy two Bastion systems along its central coast to counter threats in the South China Sea.

The Vietnamese Navy currently possesses two Gepard-class frigates, two BPS-500-class light patrol boats, five Petya-III-class vessels, four Tarantul I-class missile boats, and Molnya-class high-speed warships equipped with supersonic anti-ship missiles and short-range anti-aircraft missiles. The Vietnamese military has also ordered six Kilo-class submarines from Russia.
